Responsibilities & Qualifications

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Stakeholder Engagement
    Collaborate with stakeholders to analyze requirements and current infrastructure components to assess gaps and recommend alternate technologies and solutions where appropriate.

  •  

    Solution Architecture and Planning

    Drive discussions on future planning and technology road mapping, guiding enterprise adoption of emerging compute and storage technologies while maintaining backward and future compatibility with existing components. Develop and validate data center architectures that optimize performance, security, and scalability across hybrid/multi-cloud environments. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align architecture with business and security requirements. Develop a concrete and executable roadmap for the Compute and Storage functional area.

  • Solution Design and Implementation 
    Design scalable and maintainable virtualization, storage and backup solutionsDesign and implement VMware Cloud Foundation environments, ensuring alignment with enterprise performance and resilience goals, oversee deployment and optimization of vSAN-ready nodes, ensuring high availability, fault tolerance, and optimized storage operations.  Design and manage data backup and recovery strategies leveraging Commvault Metallic for on-premises, hybrid, and cloud workloads. Ensure compliance with DISA STIGs and government security frameworks through hardening, patch management, and auditing processes.  Provide expertise on Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) design, deployment, and ongoing optimization for enterprise users.
  • Innovation, Strategy and Technology Leadership 
    Act as a subject matter expert and stay current with the compute and storage updates and best practices, providing architecture and implementation guidance on upcoming projects across our customer base. Stay ahead of tech trends in the Power Platform space, proposing continuous improvements.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA/BS in a relevant subject, such as computer science or equivalent
  • 15+ years of relevant experience in new and related older technology that directly relates to the required area of expertise.
  • Ability to obtain a public trust
  • Successfully pass a drug screening
  • Possess requisite knowledge and expertise so recognized in the professional community that the Government is able to quality the individual as an expert in the field for an actual task order.
  • Familiarity with container technologies (Kubernetes, Tanzu) and cloud-native application platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of zero-trust security models and cloud governance frameworks.
  • Experience working in Federal Civilian secure environments

CERTIFICATIONS

  • VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP) or Design Expert (VCDX).
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions
  • Commvault Certified Professional.

Overview

We are seeking a Compute and Storage Architect / SME to join our team supporting the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in Rockville, MD. 

 

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) GLobal INfrastructure and Development Acquisition (GLINDA) provides a wide variety of Information Technology (IT) support services to the NRC Headquarters located in Rockville, MD; with four Regional Offices.  

 

We're looking for a highly skilled Compute and Storage Architect/SME who can provide strategic and technical leadership in the architecture, design, planning, deployment, and management of enterprise-class compute, storage, and hybrid cloud environments. The SME will serve as the authoritative resource on related technologies such as VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), vSAN-ready nodes, Commvault Metallic backups, and Microsoft Azure solutions, supporting mission-critical and corporate support operations with an emphasis on security, compliance, cost efficiencies, and scalability. 

You will define technical strategies and design solutions tailored to business needs and interact with stakeholders. This is a hands-on architecture position requiring strong technical expertise in solution design, governance, automation, and implementationThe successful candidate will serve as both a technical SME, a mentor to the compute and storage team, and trusted advisor to our customers.
