Responsibilities & Qualifications

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Install, configure, and maintain network equipment and related hardware, ensuring proper physical setup and connectivity.
  • Manage physical and logical network cabling, including both copper and fiber optic media, following industry best practices for installation, labeling, and organization.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve Layer 1 and Layer 2 connectivity issues to support continuous network operations.
  • Perform equipment upgrades, replacements, and decommissioning with minimal disruption to ongoing services.
  • Document network configurations, cabling layouts, and equipment inventories to maintain accurate and up-to-date records.
  • Collaborate with onsite and remote teams to coordinate installation and maintenance activities across multiple locations.
  • Ensure proper handling, transport, and storage of network equipment as required, including local travel to support project needs.
  • Maintain compliance with safety standards and operational procedures during all installation and maintenance activities.
  • Submit timely activity and status reports to provide updates on progress, issues, and completed tasks.
  • Apply foundational knowledge of networking principles, including the OSI model, to support a variety of network environments and technologies.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 1 year of hands-on experience with physical network cabling, including both copper and fiber optic media
  • Foundational knowledge of the OSI model:
    • Proficiency in Layer 1 and Layer 2 concepts required
    • Familiarity with Layer 3 concepts preferred
  • Must successfully pass a background investigation
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must reside within the continental United States
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 75% of the time, as required by project assignments
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Must be consistently punctual and reliable
  • Proven ability to maintain attention to detail, multi-task effectively, and learn quickly in dynamic environments
  • Security+ (or obtain within 90 days)

As a member of our Network Solutions Team, you will provide comprehensive network support across multiple lab locations, including Reston, Boston, and other program sites as needed. This role is responsible for a broad range of network infrastructure tasks to ensure the reliable configuration, operation, maintenance, and documentation of our IT environments. This position requires strong technical proficiency, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team to provide high-quality network support across diverse program requirements.
