Responsibilities & Qualifications

TekSynap seeks a highly experienced System Administrator to lead advanced IT infrastructure projects for our clients. This senior-level position involves managing complex systems, integrating new technologies, and ensuring high levels of performance and security across IT operations ensuring the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems and network servers at a federal facility. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Oversee and manage the administration of server systems, network configurations, and storage solutions, including cloud-based environments such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. 
  • Design and implement robust virtualization solutions to enhance infrastructure efficiency and resilience. 
  • Conduct sophisticated system performance evaluations and tune hardware and software configurations to ensure optimal system performance. 
  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive disaster recovery and business continuity plans that comply with federal standards. 
  • Lead security protocol management, including the development and enforcement of policies to safeguard data and infrastructure. 
  • Automate routine administrative tasks using scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, or Bash to improve system efficiencies and reduce human error. 
  • Mentor and guide junior system administrators, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning within the IT department. 
  • Produce detailed documentation on system deployments, configurations, and upgrades to ensure that IT infrastructure is transparent and compliant with industry standards. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support and troubleshoot complex IT issues, providing expert guidance and leadership. 
  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to align IT infrastructure strategies with organizational goals. 

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, with a preference for a Master’s degree in a relevant area. 
  • 5-7 years of direct experience in system administration with both Windows and Linux, including significant leadership roles in managing complex IT environments. 
  • Extensive experience with virtualization tools such as VMware, vSAN management, and cloud environments like Azure. 
  • Strong understanding of network and server hardware, software, and protocols with a preference for HPE and Dell Server configuration, hardware and firmware updates.  
  • Advanced knowledge of PowerShell scripting and automation to streamline IT operations. 
  • Demonstrated ability to design and manage enterprise-level IT security measures. 
  • Must be a US Citizen  
  • Ability to pass a federal law enforcement background investigation. 

 

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Advanced certifications such as MCSE, VCP, RHCSA. 
  • Demonstrated experience with regulatory compliance and security standards such as NIST. 
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and the capacity to work under tight deadlines. 
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of leading teams and projects, and effectively presenting technical information to a range of audiences.  
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to effectively manage and mentor IT staff. 
  • Expertise in cloud services administration and management, with certifications in AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud as a strong plus. 
  • Experience in prioritizing system outages, projects and tasks while providing technical assistance and resolution to team to ensure optimal system performance;  
  • Ability to design and implement operational server systems and prototypes according to engineering data and Government requirements;  
  • Extensive knowledge of systems principles, protocols and design to evaluate and gain optimal performance;  
  • Collaborate with Network and System Engineers, vendors, and other personnel to identify, define, and solve trending or developmental problems; 
  • Maintain, troubleshoot and repair systems infrastructure;  
  • Experience with cloud engineering and migration strategies, and ability to communicate, coordinate and resolve technical issues with data center engineering on systems that are maintained at each data center location.   
  • Proven ability to document processes and procedures.
