The Database Administrator is responsible for ensuring the integrity of all the databases within the system. The Database Administrator works closely with System Administrators to carry out and sustain system-wide backups and restores. The Database Administrator will provide maintenance of databases to include the following: backups, disaster recovery, database support (status checks, Oracle critical patch updates). Software Sustainment Support: This position will provide software administration services for the sustainment and maintenance of the infrastructure middleware and databases in a managed Oracle DBMS. This support will include development and maintenance of scripts, defect correction, software upgrades, data migration, technical analysis, documentation, and other activities supporting compliance with emerging cybersecurity requirements and inspections. Software Integration Support: The position will provide system administration support for the Oracle DBMS servers. This support will include software integration and software security. Examples include Puppet module integration, manual DISA STIG item implementation, and solution engineering using Ansible and other emerging technologies.   Required Specialized Skills: - Detailed knowledge, training and expertise in Database Administration of an Oracle Database Management System (DBMS) to include Oracle Performance Tuning, Oracle Administration, Operating Systems (OSs), Scripting Languages, and Oracle Administration in a RedHat Linux and Solaris environment. - Knowledge of DISA Security Technical Implementation Guidelines (STIGs) and the ability to evaluate cybersecurity compliance of Oracle DBMS software against the DISA STIG. - Experience with transitioning Oracle DBMS software and databases onto RedHat Enterprise Linux Servers. RESPONSIBILITIES - Work with the Veterans Administration's Enterprise System Engineering/Capacity Management for Telecommunications team. - Serve as a member of a team that provides Enterprise level recommendations for LAN to VA senior leadership on enterprise communications. - Provide Tier4 escalation support when issues arise, deployment support for new technologies or architectures. - Make architecture recommendations to support the growing needs of the VA. - Test the recommendations for enterprise compatibility in the state of the art network design lab - Use existing Network Management tools to provide capacity management/utilization reports - Provide on-call escalation support in the event that an issue arises that cannot be rectified by the network operations team. - Write white papers on new technology uses in the VA and how it will help support the mission of the VA.
